ORIGINAL LUPINE BEAN COFFEE, MADE IN GERMANY
Since 1996 our lupine coffee drink called "Lupino" is being made by a family run farm in Germany. It was the first ever commercially made lupine coffee in the country.
Until this day the white lupines are organically grown, then roasted and ground, just like normal coffee beans.
The powder and beans can be used in the same way as coffee beans, and also the taste is very similar, however lupine coffee is free of caffein and easy to digest.
The "Lupresso" beans have been rasted for a longer period of time and therefore taste similar to espresso.
WHAT ARE SWEET WHITE LUPINES?
Lupine beans come from the flowering legume Lupineus albus, or white lupine. The annual flowering legume features spikes of white, blue or purple flowers above ground. The beans look a bit like corn seeds, with pale yellow coloring and a dented, flattened shape.
Lupines contain potassium, magnesium and zinc.
The terms lupine bean and lupine seeds are used interchangeably.
A traditional crop in the Middle East and Mediterranean regions, lupines are believed to have been cultivated at least 2,000 years ago in Egypt. Pickled lupine beans, similar to olives, are a favorite Middle Eastern snack.
