HOW IT FUNCTIONS
The Ayurveda calls our fatty tissues "meda." This dhatu (body tissue) controls hormones, fat and carbohydrates and, according to the Ayurveda, is very closely connected to overweight and its complications.
According to ayurvedic wisdom, nutrients do not simply have the task of supplying our bodies with essential substances such as vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Besides covering our daily energy needs, the ingestion of nutritional substances also contributes to maintaining a harmonious equilibrium.
In order to supply the body in an optimal way with what it needs, the Ayurveda says that it is not simply a question of the quality and choice of nutrients. The way the digestive system works and the metabolism are also important. For this determines whether or not the nutrients are property digested and taken up by the body. In the Ayurveda, the digestive system plays a fundamental role for one's health. The well-known saying "You are what you eat" can, from an ayurvedic point of view, be expanded to also say: "You are what you digest." |
