This friendly Smiley brings a smile into every sauna.
Trickle a little bit of water onto his face and he suddenly makes funny expressions, which will in turn put a smile on any sauna-goer’s face. And if the sauna is at the optimal temperature and humidity, he’ll even shed tears of joy!
THE SAUNA IN FINLAND
The sauna is an important element of the heart of Finland.
As a natural, unchanged, untreated product, soapstone is ideally suited for the sauna. Only products of highest quality should ever be used in such a sacred place.
SOAPSTONE
Soapstone (Steatite) is a group of natural stones, which primarily consist of magnesium silicate talc in highly concentrated formations. This stone is mined almost everywhere in the world.
Depending on the makeup of a particular kind of soapstone, the stone may vary in hardness and brittleness. This usually depends on the region where the particular soapstone is from. Additional components of soapstone are the minerals chloride, magnesite, and serpentine.
It is from the Finnish variety of soapstone that the select, so-named "Soapstone Stoves" are built. These stoves exhibit an extraordinary ability to retain heat. This type of soapstone is, however, much harder and is not suited for malleable objects. Due to its ability to retain heat, soapstone has been used since the beginning of history in the making of cookware.
